Klimt by Carl Moroder

The sculptor Carl Moroder found the elements of “beauty” and “elegance” in the works of the Viennese Art Nouveau painter Gustav Klimt. Immediately fascinated by the charisma of these unique works of art, he found a way to redesign these pictures in a unique way.

Moroder's Klimt interpretations are regarded as the highlight of his work. The mounted and partially gilded high reliefs in lime and Swiss stone pine combine the designs of the world-famous artist with the sculptor's own style, merging picture and sculpture into a completely new entity. The colors and the subtle golden sheen of the frame create a completely new depth effect.

The special way in which the individual objects are painted is based on old recipes from the 14th century. Natural pigments are also used in this very high-quality tempera painting. Although all the precious pieces have only been created in recent years, their painted surface already appears brittle and cracked; this is due to the special type of chalk priming and the deliberate “canceling”, a technique that makes the newly painted wooden piece appear antique.

“This new interpretation of Gustav Klimt's famous paintings is my personal tribute to the great artist.”
